My Favorite Youtube Finds

I don’t know about you, but as a kid I lived for Reading Rainbow, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, and Bob Ross. Check out these remix versions… I’m obsessed!

What were your favorite television shows growing up?

I’m Cold.

I don’t know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but where I live it’s pretty chilly for this time of year. Also, I love the windows in our apartment… but I think I would love them more if they didn’t bring a steady breeze into our living room!

Today, I’m thinking about all things warm. Here’s what’s on my wish list…

My Favorite Time Of The Year!

31 Oct

Happy Halloween.

Some people look forward to Christmas every year… I look forward to Halloween!!!!

I love this holiday so much, because for one day you get to be whatever you want – superhero, skeleton, princess, zombie, you name it. Plus, you get to eat all the candy you want and you get to watch scary movies until you’re too afraid to fall asleep.

I’m not dressing up this year, but after work I plan on picking up some wine and some candy and watching some of the classics… like Hocus-Pocus and my personal favorite, The Shining.

Here are some things I bet you didn’t know about Halloween…

[1.] Some believe that Halloween is derived from the Celtic New Year, which
celebrates the end of spring/summer (the “lighter half” of the year) and the
beginning of fall/winter (the “darker half”). They believed that on this night,
the border between this world and that of the afterlife became espcially thin
and spirits -both good and evil- could pass through.

[2.] The tradition of wearing costumes came from the thought that this practice would ward off evil spirits. The idea is that if you look like an evil spirit, the real spirits will avoid you.

[3.] The reason it’s popular to carve and light pumpkins comes from the
tradition of commemorating souls in purgatory and to also ward off evil spirits.

[4.] Ever wonder why Halloween colors consist of black and orange?
Black represents the darkness of the night and orange represents the color of
the leaves, bonfires and pumpkins.

[5.] Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of souling, when
poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day(November 2).

Do you celebrate Halloween? If you do, what are you doing tonight in celebration?

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween!!!

I’ve talked about it a little here before, but it’s a dream of mine to open up my own furniture business¬†and one day work from home full time creating beautiful pieces for the home. There’s something so relaxing about spending the day painting, and I really love the feeling I get when I’m able to turn something old and worn into something truly beautiful and unique.

Obviously, as many people who dream of having their own business soon find… it takes money to make money! So, after going several weekends without any projects at all, I decided that it was time to search for a piece and pick out some paints. My boyfriend had given me a few planter boxes when we moved in together last month, and I love how they look after a fresh coat of paint. These will hold my future indoor herb garden in a few months, and I really love how they turned out!

You can’t tell in the picture, but the boxes go from white to light grey to darker grey. The contrast from the top two boxes aren’t as distinct as I wanted them to be… so I might end up painting the middle one a little darker. We’ll see.

The good news is I have a little extra paint, and I’m thinking about doing something like THIS just for fun this week!

I also found a really cool coffee table at the thrift store on Saturday. I’m going to sand it down today and tomorrow, and then I picked out a really pretty paint color for it and I want to experiment with adding some fabric to the surface for some added personality. This will be my first piece that I plan to sell, and I’m excited to see how that turns out! (I also hope I don’t fall in love with it and try to keep it for myself, haha!)

Creating is something that has always been very important to me, and it’s also something that has been seriously lacking in my life for the past few years. I always feel like the best version of myself whenever I’m doing something artistic, and so I’m really looking forward to creating¬†things on a regular basis from now on!

P.S. – If you haven’t noticed, I am such a huge fan of the movie E.T. (really, who isn’t?) That’s why I was so excited to find Henry Thomas’ audition tape for the part of Elliot! Child actors always impress me, but this kid really is incredible!

Monday, Monday.

15 Oct

I have been a little under the weather lately, but of course I would start feeling better just in time for work on Monday. Lucky me!

I had to take a little break from working out this week… so I really hope that I don’t have to start my 30 day shred over when I try to log in this afternoon. I also hope I can get my motivation back… because a week of sitting in front of the tv and napping constantly has gotten pretty comfortable in all honesty!

But anyway, I had a really good weekend and after my boyfriend introduced me to the awesomeness that is the RedBull website… there are a few things I just had to share!

First… this video is amazing – this guy Felix¬†did a free fall¬†from outer space and ended up breaking the sound barrier. So awesome.

Second… this guy is ridiculous. There aren’t even words.

I tend to get really obsessed with strange animals from time to time. Ask any of my friends about the Sea Lamprey, and you are sure to get an eye roll! My most recent obsession? The Octopus

After reading THIS article, I can’t help but spit off facts over and over again. Who knew they were so interesting?

And check out this video… amazing!
